PTA Hearing Test
How Do Our Audiologists Conduct PTA Hearing Tests?
The PTA hearing test is a quick, painless process that may be completed in between 30 and 60 minutes. This test involves the following steps:- The audiologist will first ask you to put on earphones that are connected to the audiometer.
- Subsequently, the audiologist will provide both ears with pure tones at a particular frequency and volume.
- When you hear a sound, you should indicate it with a signal.
- Your response would be used to calculate your minimum hearing threshold, which would then be depicted on a graph to show the percentage of hearing loss in each ear.
Aspects to Think About Before a PTA Ear Test
- Before taking the PTA test for ear, there is no need for extensive planning or caution. Nonetheless, the patient needs to be aware of these fundamental things:
- The patient’s replies determine the PTA test’s outcome. Therefore, during testing, the patient needs to be responsive.
- Patients can check whether they have ear wax in the ear. If ear wax is found, before the test, the audiologist might clean the ears after speaking with the ENT expert.
- Patients suffering from a common or severe cold have to stay away from the test because mucus buildup in the ears can affect the results.
- Before the test, the patient should question the audiologist about the test technique and whether they have any specific instructions for them to follow.
If you or a person whom you know has any hearing issues, then visit the Asha Speech and Hearing Clinic to check hearing sensitivity. Our experts have been conducting PTA tests in New Delhi for many years along with other common hearing tests such as tuning fork test, speech perception and word recognition, and tympanometry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Normal hearing in a PTA test ranges from 0 to 25 dB HL. Values above this indicate mild to profound hearing loss depending on severity.
The cost of a PTA hearing test in Delhi typically ranges from ₹300 to ₹1500, depending on the clinic, equipment, and expertise of the audiologist.
For accurate results, avoid:
- Loud noise exposure (24 hours before test)
- Earwax blockage
- Testing during cold or ear infection
PTA is considered highly accurate when performed in a soundproof environment by a qualified audiologist. Results depend on patient response and calibration of equipment.
A PTA hearing test typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the patient’s response and testing conditions. It is a quick outpatient procedure with immediate results in most clinics
During a PTA test, you wear headphones and listen to tones at different pitches and volumes. You respond (by pressing a button or raising your hand) whenever you hear a sound. The audiologist records the lowest sound level you can detect, which is plotted on an audiogram
